 AMERICA'S POVERTY FIGHTING NETWORK

About Us

The Sunshine Tykes Drop-by Day Care receives grant funding through Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

We offer drop-by day care to low-income families with children under five years old. This allows them to take care of important business such as meeting with DHS, meeting with a Family Support and Connections mentor, going to a doctor appointment, or searching for a job. Click here for the brochure to learn about our services.

We are currently accepting applications for children to attend. Please print the application, fill it out, and bring it to the center to enroll your children. Please also bring proof of immunizations, your child's social security number, and your social security number. It will take about 10 - 15 minutes to complete the application process once you come in.

We also offer classes for parents. We have given classes on “Snowy Day Activities to Do with Your Child”, “Hands and Words Are Not for Hurting”, “Yoga for Kids”, and “5 Creative Uses for Peanut Butter and Other Snack Ideas.” These classes are free. In fact, parents can earn "Day Care Bucks" towards child care at our center.

In addition, we offer opportunities for day care providers and potential day care providers to learn more about early childhood education. Currently, we are offering a class called Building Blocks of Social-Emotional Development classes through the local Child Care Resource Network. Call Kris at (541) 850-2052 to find out dates and register. We also offer work experience (to see if child care is right for you) through volunteer opportunities.

If you are looking for a meaningful way to contribute to your community, we are looking for qualified volunteer teachers with early childhood experience to help staff our center; for a job description, click here. In addition, we need volunteer aides who want to work with children and can pass a criminal background check; for a job description, click here. If you have other talents and skills you feel would benefit the center, we would love to hear from you also. Once you have decided that you would like to volunteer, please fill out the Volunteer Application and email Kris John, Day Care Training Center Coordinator with any volunteer questions.

Finally, we are seeking donations of items to help get our day care center up and running. Please review our donations needs/wants and consider whether you would be able to help us make a place that is safe, fun, and inviting for children. You can also donate online using PayPal, just click the Donate button located on the left then email Melissa Lindsay, Fiscal Manager to specify that your donation is to be used for Sunshine Tykes.

Contact Kris John, Day Care Training Center Coordinator for any questions or for further information.  You can also reach the center by calling (541) 850-2052.  Also, please feel free to visit us at 4849 S 6th Street – a map is included in our brochure and with the application.
